We are very happy to have received 14 entries and all of the judges enjoyed wonderful works! After careful consideration, the following entry is selected as winning work.

-- What was the theme you wanted to show in this design about the Aki Matsuri?

Ernest: I attempted to create something in relation to Tsukimi (moon-viewing). The Japanese folklore of bunnies pounding mochi in honor of the autumn moon felt like a fun idea.
​
In my illustration, the bunny with the mallet hits the mochi so hard that it forms a wave resembling the Ukiyo-e woodblock print “Under the Wave off Kanagawa”, made by the famous Japanese artist Hokusai.
​
The stretching texture of mochi is often associated with longevity, and symbolizes good luck and offers strength. It can also represent prosperity, health and happiness for the upcoming year. This was the energy I wanted to put into the shirt design.
T-shirts featuring this artwork will be available to purchase at the Aki Matsuri on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
